Notations is a compilation of graphic scores edited by John Cage and Alison Knowles.
The book itself was edited using a process of indeterminacy, where chance was used to pick which out of the 269 composers would be asked to write about their entry and how many words they would write. Each composer was given an equal amount of space within the book, listed in alphabetical order.
The font type and size was also determined by chance driven process.
